I like to support any YA LGBT books out there because I think there should be more of them. I was really looking forward to reading this one, and maybe my expectations were too high. Or my internal embarrassment for him was too great. I don't know. It just didn't work as well for me as I thought it would.

It was hard for me to connect to Noah, especially at the beginning of the book. His lack of filter and slapstick actions were comical at first. His over-the-top (IMO) behavior was initially funny to me, but after having a continuous feed of it, it became overwhelming. It was hard for me to handle being in his wacky, clueless, chaotic head. The boy basically thought in hyperbole. (But I did enjoy his endless facts that he would spout off in a nanosecond, totally out of sync with what was cool.)

It was going to be a 2-star read for me, but eventually by 50% I was able to resign myself - and consciously cut off my qualms of embarrassment for him - that this was just how he was going to be all the time. It became more enjoyable after that fact.

What I did love was Harry. The fact that Harry loved and truly enjoyed Noah for his wack-a-doodle self told me what a great guy he was. I might read the sequel Noah Could Never, noting that it is rated higher than this one. I haven't decided quite yet. If I do, I'll have to be in a certain mood, understanding that "Noah will be Noah," and just go with the flow.

I don't read a lot of books. But, this book, this story is absolutely beautiful. Each chapter will have you on the edge of your sit in suspense to the next chapter. This book is not just a love story for LGBT teenagers, but a love story for absolutely everyone. This book has truly taken in my heart and I am truly going to miss reading about these charters. Simon, Thank you for this story.
Like a roller coaster, up, down, sideways . A bit hard to follow sometimes, but pure entertainment.
Being American , British terms are sometime hard to understand
But if you stick with it a fun time is to be had.
Noah's mind is runs 500 mph, sometime absolutely crazy. There are quite a few times I absolutely laughed so hard it brought tears to my eyes. Nutty scenarios, outrageous thoughts, but still a lot of fun.
Be patient, and enjoy the read, it is definitely worth it !
Hope to see more from this author.
Throw a bit of tv detective show camp from the 80 into a pot of a cute nerdy 15 year old boy and a dash of Scooby Doo and you get Noah. His life is a mess right now. Mom is a Beyoncé night club act, his dad was captured by pirates (as Noah claimed when he was 10), his best mate Harry loves him, one girl from school claims he’s the daddy, he may have a bigger family than he thought...and that’s just a few of the events impacting his life. Don’t worry though, Noah is on the case to clear his name and fix the broken.

This story was so much fun to read. It felt like a bit of a John Hughes 80s movie. 4.0 for Gran.
Noah Can't Even is a great gay YA coming of age tale set in Britain. Noah is a very complex character who is drawn with extreme care by the author. You really get to know this boy and what makes him tick. The supporting cast is nicely fleshed out, including his gay best friend Harry and his errant mother. Just as Noah is complex, so is his life, which the author renders believably even for a 16-year-old. Watching Noah navigate all the hurdles life puts in front of him is compelling and many times quite funny. This is an entirely entertaining book that I strongly recommend. And three cheers for Harry!
Unusual central character battles one amusing twist after another. Noah is clueless. Noah is socially inept. Noah is graceless. Noah is short. Noah may love Sophie. Noah should love Harry. Add a mother who earns her living by doing a Beyonce tribute show, a father who may or may not be dead, a gran who plots her escape from her nursing home, a pregnant girl who says Noah is the father although he is pretty sure what they did was not sex and numerous guys who would like to leave Noah for road kill. All of this takes place in a backwater British village in which nothing ever happens. The writing is clever and the plotting reaches peaks of laugh outloud fun as Noah wonders "can things get worse". In every case the answer is yes. Not so funny for Noah but very amusing for the reader.
